Gestures of Love: A Christmas Initiative that Touched Hearts

This Christmas, AGUAdeORO’s 2025 holiday initiative ‘Gestures of Love’ has proven that kindness, connection and joy are even more precious than any gift. Designed to spread love and joy during the holiday season, the project received an overwhelming response from participants.

Sharing Memories Across Generations

The project began with elderly members of our community recording heartfelt voice messages, sharing their favourite Christmas memory along with a piece of advice. Once these messages were shared, participants of all ages listened and were deeply touched by the kindness, love and wisdom shared. One participant said, “My favourite Christmas memory is having listened to this message.” To reach as many people as possible, we told passersby about the messages on the street and handed out cards that allowed them to write back.

Writing Back with Care

Hearing these stories brightened people’s day, and many said they hoped to do the same by writing a letter in return. As a result, these voice messages received an extraordinary number of replies, each written with such care and kindness. One participant shared, “your message reminded me about the true meaning of Christmas, something that I often forget with the stress of it all. Thank you so much for sharing your story. I hope that you have a wonderful Christmas and that in 2026 all your dreams come true.” 

Many participants also noted how meaningful it was to sit down and write a letter to someone, something that in this day and age is not done so often anymore. 

Overwhelmed with Joy: The Power of Kind Words

When the elder members received the envelopes filled with replies to their message, they were overwhelmed with joy. They smiled, laughed and were so touched by the amount of thank-yous, kind wishes and reflections shared. It was truly a magical moment to see people so filled with happiness from the words of strangers. One participant even described it as “the best Christmas gift he’d ever received.” The project brought moments of true holiday magic, leaving both old and young deeply touched.

This initiative has been a beautiful success, leaving the elders, participants and us at AGUAdeORO extremely touched. Many are already hoping it will become an annual tradition continuing to bring joy and holiday magic for years to come.
